Filing

In a civil case assigned only to a magistrate judge, all parties must file written consent by seven days after the Rule 16 initial case management conference for that judge to remain presiding.

Motions

Before all parties consent to magistrate-judge jurisdiction in a direct-assignment case, a party intending to file a listed dispositive or injunctive motion must first file a letter of no more than one page.

“(4) If a party intends to file a motion for judgment on the pleadings, summary judgment, to dismiss for failure to state a claim or any relief under Rule 12(b), to involuntary dismiss the case, or for injunctive relief (other than a motion for preliminary injunctive relief or a temporary restraining order) and all parties have not yet consented to the jurisdiction of the Magistrate Judge, the party seeking such relief must file, no later than any date specified by any Federal or Local Rule governing the timing of such a motion, a letter no longer than one (1) page expressing such intent.”

File sealed documents in CM/ECF under the existing procedures; they are no longer viewable electronically.

“Sealed documents will now be filed in CM/ECF under prior existing procedures but will no longer be accessible or viewable by electronic means.”

Serve sealed documents by an appropriate method outside CM/ECF.

“Parties will have to serve sealed documents by other appropriate means as provided by the Federal Rules of Procedure.”

A motion to designate a document as highly sensitive and the proposed document must be submitted outside electronic filing.

“The motion to designate AND the proposed HSD shall not be filed electronically but rather pursuant to the procedures in Section 3 below.”

Deliver paper copies of a highly sensitive document designation motion and the proposed document to the clerk in person.
