Certificate of Service
CERTIFICATE OF SERVICE
State of Oklahoma — District Court
JURISDICTION NOTE: This Certificate of Service template is designed for use in Oklahoma state court civil proceedings governed by Title 12 of the Oklahoma Statutes and the Oklahoma Pleading Code. For cases in the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Eastern, or Western Districts of Oklahoma, consult the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and applicable local rules.
OKLAHOMA SERVICE LAW — QUICK REFERENCE
12 O.S. § 2005(A) — Documents Requiring Service
Every pleading subsequent to the original petition, every written motion other than one which may be heard ex parte, every written notice, appearance, demand, offer of judgment, and similar paper must be served upon each of the parties.
Service upon a represented party is made upon the attorney of record unless the court orders service upon the party.
12 O.S. § 2005(B) — Permitted Methods of Service
Service of papers (other than original process) may be made by:
- Delivery — Handing a copy to the attorney or party; leaving a copy at the attorney's office with a clerk or other responsible person; or leaving at the attorney's or party's residence with a person of suitable age and discretion
- Mail — Mailing to the last known address
- Facsimile — Transmitting via fax if authorized and the recipient has a fax number on file
- Electronic Means — Transmitting by email or other electronic means with the written consent of the recipient (§ 2005(B)(3))
- OSCN E-Filing System — Electronic filing through the Oklahoma State Courts Network, which auto-serves registered participants
12 O.S. § 2006(E) — Mail Extension (3 Days)
Whenever a party must act within a prescribed period after service, and service is by mail, 3 days are added to the prescribed period. Oklahoma follows the same 3-day mail extension rule as federal practice.
Oklahoma E-Filing — OSCN (Oklahoma State Courts Network)
Oklahoma courts use the OSCN (Oklahoma State Courts Network) portal for e-filing and electronic service:
- E-filing is available through the OSCN online docketing system
- When a document is e-filed, registered attorneys of record receive electronic notification of filing
- The OSCN e-filing system's notification of filing serves as service on registered participants
- Parties not registered in OSCN must be served by traditional means (mail, hand delivery, fax) with that service separately noted in the Certificate of Service
- The Oklahoma Supreme Court has authorized mandatory e-filing in various courts and case types; check the applicable district court's administrative orders
Electronic / Email Service — § 2005(B)(3)
Service by electronic means (including email) requires the written consent of the party or their attorney. Written consent documentation must be maintained in the attorney's file. Without consent, email service is not valid.
Service on Self-Represented (Pro Se) Parties
Self-represented litigants must be served by mail or personal delivery unless they have separately consented in writing to electronic service or are registered in the OSCN e-filing system. Confirm pro se registration status with the court clerk before relying on OSCN notification as service.
District Court Variations
Oklahoma has 77 counties organized into 26 judicial districts. Each district court may have local administrative orders affecting e-filing and service requirements. Always check the applicable district court's standing orders posted on the OSCN website.

OSCN E-Filing Portal
Oklahoma's OSCN portal (oscn.net) provides public access to court records and supports electronic filing for attorneys registered with the system. Many district courts require mandatory e-filing for attorneys. Key practices:
- Register at oscn.net to obtain e-filing credentials
- Verify whether mandatory e-filing applies to your case type and court
- Keep OSCN filing receipts and electronic service logs for your records
- Check the district's administrative orders posted on the OSCN website
Certificate of Service on Discovery
Oklahoma follows the practice of serving discovery requests and responses on all parties. A certificate of service is required for all served discovery documents. Discovery is generally not filed with the clerk unless attached to a motion or ordered by the court.
Confidential Personal Information — Oklahoma Supreme Court Rule 31
Before serving documents electronically or filing publicly, redact personal identifiers (Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, dates of birth of minors, home addresses) consistent with Oklahoma Supreme Court rules and local administrative orders.
Domestic Violence / Protective Order Cases
In cases involving protective orders or domestic violence, special service rules and confidentiality protections apply. Consult the applicable provisions of 22 O.S. § 60.2 et seq. and the court's standing orders.
Attorney Withdrawal and Substitution
When an attorney has withdrawn or new counsel has entered an appearance, verify the current attorney of record before completing service. Serving a former attorney does not constitute valid service.

About This Template
These are the filings that drive a lawsuit through the system: complaints, answers, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, and post-judgment papers. Each has its own format requirements under federal and state procedural rules, and each has a deadline that cannot be missed without consequences. Clean, procedurally correct filings move a case forward; sloppy ones invite motions to strike, amended responses, and avoidable delays.
Important Notice
This template is provided for informational purposes. It is not legal advice. We recommend having an attorney review any legal document before signing, especially for high-value or complex matters.
