SECTION V — iCOURT PORTAL NOTES
Mandatory E-Filing in Idaho: Attorneys admitted to practice in Idaho are
required to e-file through the iCourt portal for most district court and
magistrate court civil matters. Confirm current mandatory e-filing requirements
under the Idaho Rules for Electronic Filing and Service (I.R.E.F.S.) and any
applicable administrative orders.Auto-Service through iCourt: When a document is filed and accepted through
iCourt, the system automatically transmits a filing receipt / notification to
all registered participants, which constitutes service on those parties.Technical Difficulties. If iCourt experiences technical difficulties at the
time of filing or service, note the failure (date, time, description) and retain
documentation. Idaho R.E.F.S. provides relief procedures for technical failures.
Contact the Idaho Supreme Court's eFile Support as needed.Recent Rule Amendments. The Idaho Supreme Court issued amendments to
I.R.E.F.S. effective January 1, 2025, and January 24, 2025. Always confirm the
current version of I.R.E.F.S. on the Idaho Supreme Court's website before filing.
SECTION VI — TIME COMPUTATION / MAIL RULE
Under I.R.C.P. 6(e), when a party must act within a prescribed period after
service, and service is made by U.S. Mail, three (3) additional calendar days
are added to the prescribed response period. This addition does not apply to
service through iCourt or email (with consent).
Example: A 28-day response period triggered by mail service becomes
31 days from the date of mailing.
If the final day falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or court holiday, the deadline
extends to the next court day under I.R.C.P. 6(a).

PRACTITIONER NOTES
1. I.R.C.P. 5(g) — Filing Proof of Service. Rule 5(g) requires proof of
service to be filed with the court. The certificate must include the date and
manner of service. File this certificate simultaneously with or promptly after
service.
2. iCourt Filing Receipt Numbers. Retain iCourt filing receipt numbers as
proof of timely filing and auto-service. These are often referenced in subsequent
motions and appellate records.
3. Email Service — Consent Required. Under I.R.C.P. 5(b)(3), service by
email requires documented written consent. Obtain and retain consent before
relying on email as a service method.
4. Magistrate Division. Some magistrate division matters (e.g., small claims,
simplified domestic relations) may have streamlined certificate requirements.
Confirm with the magistrate clerk's office for your specific case type.
5. Three-Day Mail Rule. Idaho's 3-day mail extension under I.R.C.P. 6(e)
applies to mail service. Calculate response deadlines carefully, and add
weekend/holiday adjustments per I.R.C.P. 6(a).
6. Court-Ordered Alternative Service. If a court has authorized an
alternative method of service, attach or reference the applicable court order
and describe the method in Section I above.
7. Idaho Judicial Districts. The seven judicial districts are: First (Shoshone,
Clearwater, Latah, Lewis, Nez Perce); Second (Idaho, Latah); Third (Adams, Canyon,
Gem, Owyhee, Payette, Washington); Fourth (Ada, Boise, Elmore, Valley); Fifth
(Blaine, Camas, Cassia, Gooding, Jerome, Lincoln, Minidoka, Twin Falls); Sixth
(Bannock, Bear Lake, Caribou, Franklin, Oneida, Power); Seventh (Bonneville,
Bingham, Butte, Clark, Custer, Fremont, Jefferson, Lemhi, Madison, Teton).

About This Template
These are the filings that drive a lawsuit through the system: complaints, answers, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, and post-judgment papers. Each has its own format requirements under federal and state procedural rules, and each has a deadline that cannot be missed without consequences. Clean, procedurally correct filings move a case forward; sloppy ones invite motions to strike, amended responses, and avoidable delays.
