SECTION 5: eFileAZ — ELECTRONIC FILING SYSTEM
eFileAZ is the Arizona courts' electronic filing system (available at efileaz.gov or through authorized e-filing service providers):
☐ All parties' counsel are registered eFileAZ users — service was completed automatically upon filing
☐ Some parties are not registered eFileAZ users — manual service used (described above)
☐ The party is a self-represented litigant (pro per) not registered in eFileAZ — alternate service used
eFileAZ Filing Confirmation:
- Envelope/Transaction ID: [________________________________]
- Date/Time of Submission: [__/__/____] at [____:____] [AM/PM] MT (Arizona does not observe DST)
- Filing Status: ☐ Accepted ☐ Under Review ☐ Rejected (describe: [________________])
eFileAZ Service Mechanism:
When a document is filed through eFileAZ, the system automatically serves registered parties by sending them a service notification. This electronic notification constitutes valid service. Parties who are not registered in eFileAZ must be served separately by another permitted method.
Note on Arizona Time:
Arizona (excluding the Navajo Nation) does not observe Daylight Saving Time. Filings made via eFileAZ are timestamped in Arizona Mountain Time (MST year-round).
SECTION 6: SELF-REPRESENTED PARTY (PRO PER) SERVICE
(Complete if any party is self-represented and not registered in eFileAZ.)
☐ A self-represented (pro per) party was served. Details:

☐ Certified Mail — Cert. No.: [________________________________]
☐ Hand Delivery — At [________________________________] on [__/__/____]
☐ Email — Email: [________________________________] (written consent provided on [__/__/____])
(Response deadline extended by 5 days.)
Note: Under Ariz. R. Civ. P. 5(c)(2)(C), service on a self-represented party who is not registered in eFileAZ is made by delivering or mailing a copy to the pro per at their mailing address on file with the court. Verify the current address in the case record.
SECTION 7: MULTIPLE-PARTY SERVICE TABLE
| # | Name | Role | Email / Address | Method | Date | Conf. No. |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | [________________________________] | [____________] | [________________________________] | [____________] | [__/__/____] | [____________] |
| 2 | [________________________________] | [____________] | [________________________________] | [____________] | [__/__/____] | [____________] |

SECTION 8: DATE AND TIME OF SERVICE
Date of Service: [__/__/____]
Time of Service / Transmission: [____:____] [AM/PM] Arizona Mountain Time (MST — year-round; Arizona does not observe DST)
City/Location of Mailing or Delivery: [________________________________], Arizona
SECTION 9: ARIZONA 5-DAY MAIL/EMAIL RULE — TIME COMPUTATION
Arizona's Extended Mail/Email Rule (Ariz. R. Civ. P. 6(e) / Rule 115(a)):
Arizona adds five (5) calendar days when a response period begins upon service by mail or email (not just mail). This is significantly longer than the 3-day rule in many other states.
| Method of Service | Additional Days | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| eFileAZ (electronic portal) | 0 additional days | Service complete at transmission; no extension |
| Email (with written consent) | +5 calendar days | 5 days added to response period |
| First-Class U.S. Mail | +5 calendar days | 5 days added to response period |
| Certified Mail | +5 calendar days | 5 days added to response period |
| Hand Delivery | 0 additional days | Service complete upon delivery |
| Overnight courier (same day) | 0 additional days | Verify per specific rule |
Important Arizona Distinction:
Arizona's Rule 115(a) adds 5 days not only for mail but also for email service. This is unusual — most states' mail rules do not extend deadlines for email service. When calculating response times in Arizona, if service was by email, add 5 days to the prescribed period.
Calculation Example:
- Motion served by email on Monday, March 10
- Response period: 10 days
- Without extension: due March 20
- With Arizona 5-day email extension: due March 25
(If March 25 is a weekend or holiday, deadline moves to next business day.)
SECTION 10: DECLARATION
I declare under penalty of perjury that the foregoing is true and correct.
Executed on [__/__/____] at [________________________________], Arizona.

SECTION 11: E-FILING INSTRUCTIONS (eFileAZ)
How eFileAZ Service Works:
- Attorney logs into eFileAZ at efileaz.gov or through an authorized service provider (e.g., TurboCourt, Tyler Technologies portal).
- Attorney prepares the filing envelope with the document and submits.
- eFileAZ sends the filing to the court for review.
- Upon court acceptance, eFileAZ sends service notifications to all registered parties.
- Registered parties receive email notification with a link to the filed document.
- For non-registered parties, manual service must be completed separately.
- Retain the eFileAZ envelope ID and any service notifications in the file.
Service Providers:
eFileAZ works with various authorized e-filing service providers. Verify that the provider you use is currently authorized by the Arizona Supreme Court.
SECTION 12: COUNTY-SPECIFIC NOTES
Maricopa County (Phoenix):
Maricopa County Superior Court may have specific local rules, administrative orders, and standing orders. The Maricopa County Complex Civil Litigation Department and family court divisions have their own procedures. Verify current local rules at superiorcourt.maricopa.gov.
Pima County (Tucson):
Pima County Superior Court follows eFileAZ procedures. Check for local standing orders, particularly for the complex civil litigation and family courts.
Other Counties:
All Arizona Superior Courts use eFileAZ. Smaller counties may have fewer local rules but confirm with the clerk's office.
Family Court:
Arizona family court (divorce, custody, support) has specific requirements for service, particularly on non-represented parties. Verify family court local rules in the county.
SECTION 13: PRACTITIONER NOTES
5-Day Rule for Email:
Arizona's 5-day extension for email service is a trap for practitioners from other states. Unlike most jurisdictions where electronic service does not add time, Arizona adds 5 days for both mail AND email. Always double-check deadlines when your opponent was served by email.
eFileAZ vs. Email Service:
Service through the eFileAZ portal is different from email service. eFileAZ service carries no 5-day extension. Email service (even with consent under Rule 5(c)(2)(D)) carries the 5-day extension. When possible, use eFileAZ to serve opposing counsel to avoid the 5-day extension applying to your own response deadlines.
Written Consent for Email:
Ariz. R. Civ. P. 5(c)(2)(D) requires written consent before email service. Obtain this at the outset of litigation. Document the consent in the case file.
Confidential Filings — Rule 5.4:
When filing documents containing confidential information (trade secrets, medical records, financial account numbers), follow Ariz. R. Civ. P. 5.4 regarding sealing and redaction. Confirm that the certificate of service does not inadvertently reveal confidential addresses or contact information.
Retained Records:
Retain eFileAZ confirmation IDs, service receipts, and any proof of manual service in the litigation file for the duration of the case and the applicable retention period.

About This Template
These are the filings that drive a lawsuit through the system: complaints, answers, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, and post-judgment papers. Each has its own format requirements under federal and state procedural rules, and each has a deadline that cannot be missed without consequences. Clean, procedurally correct filings move a case forward; sloppy ones invite motions to strike, amended responses, and avoidable delays.
