Eleventh Amendment immunity

Michigan district courts are arms of the state and have Eleventh Amendment immunity from § 1983 damages claims.

Pucci v. Nineteenth District Court · filed 2010-12-16

In the case of Michigan’s trial-level district courts, the other three factors far outweigh the fact that local funding units such as Dearborn may bear the financial repercussions of a lawsuit filed against a district court, its judges, or its employees.
