The completed, duplicate detachable notices following Exhibit A explain how to cancel. The deadline entered on both notices must be the correct calendar date. Owner may give written notice showing intent to cancel to the business address or other contact in the notices. Contractor shall orally inform Owner of this right at signing and shall honor a timely cancellation.

Contractor shall deliver Owner without charge a completed copy of this contract, Exhibit A and both detachable notices when this agreement is executed. If Contractor sends a digital copy, Contractor shall put the following statement immediately adjacent to the email or other message body in at least 12-point type (or the same size as a larger message body): PLEASE REVIEW IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR RIGHT TO CANCEL THIS AGREEMENT IN THE “NOTICE OF CANCELLATION” BEING PROVIDED TO YOU.

Legal authority

  • Conn. Gen. Stat. § 20-419 (home improvement and contractor definitions)
  • Conn. Gen. Stat. § 20-429(a)-(e) (contract terms, delivery, and cancellation law)
  • Conn. Gen. Stat. § 42-134a(6) (business day)
  • Conn. Gen. Stat. § 42-135a(1)-(3), (10) (signature notice, duplicate cancellation notices, and electronic delivery warning)
  • Conn. Gen. Stat. § 42-137(a)-(c) (cancellation deadline and written notice)

A contract is a written record of what two or more parties agreed to and what happens if someone does not follow through. Clear language, defined terms, and clean signature blocks keep disputes small and enforceable. The most common mistakes in contracts come from vague promises, missing details about timing or payment, and skipping standard protective clauses like governing law and dispute resolution.
