California Rule of Court 3.1332(c) permits continuance of a trial or other proceeding only upon an affirmative showing of good cause. Factors that may indicate good cause include, among others, the unavailability of an essential witness, substitution of trial counsel necessitating additional preparation time, and the need to complete essential pretrial tasks.
