WISCONSIN RULES
Wis. Stat. § 106.50(2r)(br) prohibits refusing housing, eviction, extra compensation, or harassment because a person with a disability and disability-related need keeps an emotional-support animal. A provider may request reliable documentation of disability and disability-related need from a licensed health professional. The resident accepts responsibility for sanitation and animal-caused damage.
Denial may rest on absence of disability or need, failure to provide properly requested documentation, undue financial and administrative burden, fundamental alteration, or a specific animal's direct threat or substantial property damage that another reasonable accommodation cannot reduce or eliminate. Intentional misrepresentation by the requester or licensed health professional carries a forfeiture of at least $500. Pending 2025 bills proposing amendments are not treated as enacted law.
