Thomas P. Schanzle-Haskins served as a United States magistrate judge in the Central District of Illinois from 2014 until 2022. He practiced law in Springfield before joining the bench, following the retirement of Magistrate Judge Byron G. Cudmore.

In Dewitt v. Commissioner of Social Security, Schanzle-Haskins reviewed the disability decision for substantial evidence without reweighing the record, denied the claimant’s motion, and affirmed the Commissioner.
“This Court must accept the findings if they are supported by substantial evidence and may not substitute its judgment or reweigh the evidence.”
Procedural preferences
In MNG 2005 v. G2 Web Services, Schanzle-Haskins used state corporate records to verify diversity despite gaps in the complaint, but dismissed with leave to amend because an alleged injury in Illinois alone did not establish personal jurisdiction over G2.
