State v. Singleton
Is it still good law? What later courts have actually done to this case.
Status
More on how this was screened
Singleton's statutory correction procedure for sentences imposed on or after July 11, 2006 remains described in later decisions. All 67 flagged citations have been read; the confirmed treatment is listed below.
67 later cases cite State v. Singleton; 67 of those citations sat close to treatment language and were flagged for reading, and all of them have been read. Citations that did not sit near treatment language were not flagged and were not read one by one, so a court that weakened this case without using any of that language would not appear here.

The Supreme Court of Ohio overruled Singleton's void sentence premise for errors in imposing postrelease control.
State v. Harper · Supreme Court of Ohio · filed
In State v. Singleton, we acknowledged “the General Assembly’s authority to alter our caselaw’s characterization of a sentence lacking postrelease control as a nullity and to provide a mechanism to correct the procedural defect by adding postrelease control at any time before the defendant is released from prison.” ... For all of the reasons stated above, we overrule our precedent to the extent that it holds that the failure to properly impose postrelease control in the sentence renders that portion of a defendant’s sentence void.
