Plain-English summary

An exempt organization asked the IRS to change its classification from a publicly supported organization under §§ 509(a)(1) and 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) to a supporting organization under § 509(a)(3). Its trust agreement said it was formed to support another exempt organization, which appointed all of its trustees. The applicant represented that disqualified persons did not control it apart from permitted foundation managers or publicly supported organizations. The IRS found that the submitted information met § 509(a)(3) and approved the reclassification effective on the redacted date of the request. The letter also says the organization's user fee would be refunded.
